Scary Pete - That’s My Story…and I’m Stuck With It

Yesterday…
Think “The Sopranos”…without as much extortion and killing and stuff…and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what it was like for Pete growing up in Montreal. He had two choices with respect to his future: follow in the cement-filled footsteps of his predecessors, or follow his music dream…and be crushed under the cement-covered shoes of his predecessors. Pete chose the latter…and has surprisingly lived to tell about it.

Play That Funky Music White Boy…
Pete briefly had a band that enjoyed a cult Montreal following, and regular airplay on the local rock station, and attracted the attention of famed Pink Floyd producer, Bob Ezrin, and former Cult bassist/producer, Jamie Stewart. The reaction of his band mates? “Cool…who wants some weed?” Wait a minute…I know that sound…that’s the sound of absolutely nothing going absolutely nowhere.

Ch-Ch-Changes…
Fearing his dream was going up in a puff of smoke (albeit an intoxicating one), Pete left Montreal and set out for the heart of the music industry, the land of opportunity, the place where it all happens…but he never did make it to Kitchener…he popped a tire on his 10-speed bike, limped into Toronto for repair…and never left. In this strange new world, he did his best to suck any semblance of life out of himself by selling timeshare at a phone center, while searching in vain for the Simon to his Garfunkel, the Yin to his Yang, the lemon to his meringue…well, you get the point.

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For…
With his music career at a standstill, Pete made a lateral career move and quickly developed a local following as a morning show personality (102.1 The Edge, Y108). His countless character voices and humourous songs left listeners in stitches (and his mother in therapy). His infamous “I Am NOT Canadian” un-rant and his hockey songs (“The Ottawa Song”, “Shut The Puck Up”) are among his most well received material. Unfortunately, this resulted in far less time for creating his “real “ music. Now you may say he’s a dreamer…or just a masochist…but Pete decided to walk away from a steady paycheck in radio, and focus on his music (once again sending his mother into therapy). After all, to quote the great David Lee Roth, “money can’t buy you happiness…but you can park your yacht right next to it!”

I Write the Songs…
“This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. Perhaps…” this is just a cheesy way to wrap up this bio. Be that as it may, what’s important is that although Pete now makes his living as a voice-over artist for commercials and cartoons, and is also making waves with his “serious” music (using a mysterious stage name), he still craves even more attention! So he created ScaryPete.Com. Please, show him some love….and he’ll show you his!
